2008 Annual Report: Reaching More Students

Reaching More Students

Education is a crucial tool for strengthening civil societies. By harnessing the power of technology and partnering with school systems, higher education institutions, community organizations, and policy makers, Facing History and Ourselves is delivering the information and tools to promote tolerance and mutual understanding to teachers, students, and community members in all parts of the world. Facing History provides opportunities for people of all ages to recognize the importance of civic participation and learn from the courage and resilience of others. This year Facing History has expanded our efforts to create a critical mass of people dedicated to reducing prejudice, violence, and injustice around the world.

Facing History is adding 10,000 new teachers to our network between 2007 and 2012. We are reaching out to communities across the United States and around the world, developing partnerships with school systems, and offering customized curricula and training for religious and other specialized schools. Through our headquarters in New England, our offices in Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Los Angeles, Memphis, New York City, and the San Francisco Bay Area, our resource center in Toronto, our international hub in London, and our North America Project and Jewish Education Program, Facing History has made strong progress toward our goal, and our network now includes 26,000 educators. Following are highlights of this year’s activities.
